about

With a voice that straddles seamlessly the worlds of close fragility and far reaching intensity, there is nary a person who doesnʼt fall immediately entranced when they hear it.

The Canadian/Swedish band Thus Owls have carved themselves into the psyches and hearts of many curious crowds along their way since their 2009 debut record “Cardiac Malformations”. The groupʼs cinematic, dark and emotional art-folk hits you in the gut and brings
your focus to what lays deep inside. With an eclectic line-up surrounding the Montreal-relocated Swedish songstress Erika Angell and Montreal guitarist Simon Angell (Patrick Watson Band), Thus Owls emerge from two of the most prolific and cutting edge corners of the world to create a sound both novel and captivating.

"Cardiac Malformations" was recorded during five intense and playful days in the legendary Svenska Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is where it all started, where a sense, a feeling, an image of a creation and the sound of Thus:Owls was born.
